HB 444 Action and Update
Do you think HB444 (Civil Unions) is “dead?” Don’t be deceived, it is very much alive and we have heard that legislators want to pass the bill early and quickly, with hopes that it will be forgotten by the end of the session and not be an issue during the upcoming 2010 elections.
HB 444 is poised in the Senate for passage on third reading. If you recall, the measure already passed second reading by the Senate at the end of session. It was an unexpected floor amendment that prevented the bill’s passage at the end of session. If the bill passes the Senate it will crossover to the House where the House must either (1) disagree with the amendments made by the Senate and force it into a House-Senate Conference committee or (2) agree to the amendments, and then take a final vote on the bill. If the bill passes the House, it will be sent to the Governor for her signature, Veto or passage without her signature. It is time to awaken and be vigilant once again. There is little time to react to Senate and House actions once they convene on opening day, January 20.
We need your involvement BEGINNING NOW!
