Letters to the editor(Maui News)

By John

The letters to the editor are my daily dose of insanity.  I often wonder, Where do these “Whackos” come from?  I remind myself that Maui County was one of only a few counties that endorsed Dennis Kucinich for President.

Below is a letter to the editor this week from Bill Stroud (Contender for Mayor).

The three things that he thinks will improve our economy is Same Sex Marriage, Gambling, and Selling Marijuana to other States.

Talk about moral depravity.  Why don’t we just throw away anything that resembles virtues, and moral teachings, the law books, and say anything goes.   I really would not be surprised if our culture eventually turns this direction, since we are taught that “It’s all about Me”.   There is a God that we will be held accountable.  Did you know that the early founders of our Country wanted virtues and morality taught in our Elementary Schools?

PLEASE read the 5000 year leap.  What a wonderful book about the Founding Fathers and how our country was built.

Here is the letter from Bill Stroud.

Forget the simple fact of our governor giving away over $600 million of surplus last year plus her shady $40 million in harbor improvements for the Superferry disaster or our mayor and County Council starting out with a pay raise then shutting down a $30 million cash flow into our north shore through her campaign promise to the hotel industry of shutting down the TVR industry.

These things are as they are and we have to deal with the reality of our fiscal situation right now. Forget the fact that they aren’t cutting “pork” from our budgets and are focusing on our children and the working class while they’re sitting on their duffs and not going aggressively after the stimulus funds from our federal government.

I still believe in our system of government but I also believe we simply have elected well-meaning but internally asleep people who have little conscious recognition of their real responsibilities or having an actual common-interest direction toward their duties.

If we were serious about getting our economy going within a few short months, we could legalize same-sex unions, legalize gambling in a sensible manner, become the medical marijuana provider to the 11 states who have our same sensible policies, plant and start many hemp-based industries and go aggressively after funds and business partnerships to get totally off the fossil-fuel electricity grid. Anything else? We can construct an environment we can promote and which can catch the attention of the world!

Too funny. I always use the Kucinich example to explain the Maui political culture. Makes me so proud!
Bill Stroud is a real piece of work to be sure. Unfortunately he is not unique or even uncommon. I’m sure in his pot shrouded mind a bunch of pakalolo smoking gay couples hanging out at casinos is the answer to our economic woes. That a suckling at the Obama government teat. God save us.
The Maui News letters to the editor were way more entertaining when they allowed comments on their website. That really drew the nuts and flakes out of the woodwork.
